Grow It, Try It, Like It! Preschool Fun with Fruits and Vegetables Part I and II

Rosemary Rodibaugh

This lesson will provide tips on incorporating a garden-themed nutrition education kit called Grow It, Try It, Like It! for child care center and family child care staff. The kit introduces children to three fruits: peaches, strawberries and cantaloupe, and three vegetables: spinach, sweet potatoes and crookneck squash. Most importantly, the kit provides hands-on activities, planting activities and nutrition education activities. The kit can be used to promote learning at home with fun parent/child activities and family-sized recipes that give tips for cooking with children.

Giving Medicine to Children Wisely Part I

Margaret Harris

As a child care provider, you have an added responsibility of ensuring the well-being and safety of someone else’s children. This lesson will define what a medicine is and provide tips to correctly identify a prescription, over-the-counter medicine, drug products and supplements. You will also learn the proper procedures for giving different types of medicine to children in the child care setting.

Giving Medicine to Children Wisely Part II

Margaret Harris

The legal aspects of giving medicine to children in the child care setting may be daunting to child care professionals. Participants will be able to identify the legal forms needed for medicine administration and how to fill them out. Most poisonings that occur happen in a split second because something was within reach of a child. Storing medicine properly, away from children’s reach, is very important. Learn how to store medicine safely.

Everyday Transitions

Kathryn Aughtry

Transitioning between activities can be a challenging time for both children and adults, but with some planning it can be an opportunity for fun and learning. In this lesson, you will learn how to make transition times throughout the day more successful.

Do, Re, Mi…the importance of music!

Rebecca Simon

Music is an important part of a child’s development. In this lesson, participants will gain knowledge of how music can help children practice important skills, including thinking, language, motor coordination and understanding emotions. Participants will also get tips on incorporating music into the classroom.

Helping Children Develop Compassion

Wally Goddard

Children have a natural capacity for compassion for others. But many of their early life experiences train compassion out of them. We can cultivate their capacity for understanding and caring about other people.

Managing Stress: Turning Challenges into Blessings

James Marshall

Challenges are a normal part of life. And being a child care professional is a challenging profession. This lesson teaches us that there are things we can do and ways we can think that will help us turn challenges into blessings.

The Best Care will provide you with verified training through the Arkansas Early Childhood Professional Development System.
