Food Preservation
  • The National Center for Home Food Preservation is an excellent source for current research-based recommendations for most methods of home food preservation. The Center was established with funding from the Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture (CSREES-USDA) to address food safety concerns for those who practice and teach home food preservation and processing methods. 
  • University of Missouri Outreach and Extension has a Food Preservation FAQ searchable database this site.

Food Security
  • Arkansas Hunger Coalition is a non-profit organization whose mission is to reduce hunger and end malnutrition in Arkansas through collective action, advocacy, and education. The mission is fulfilled by sharing information and resources, by advocating for the hungry and for organizations serving them, and by affirming and publicizing successful hunger relief programs in the state. The site provides links to Arkansas organizations fighting hunger, community gardening projects, government programs related to nutrition and hunger, national hunger relief organizations, state model hunger-relief programs, and statistics on hunger and food security.

  • Arkansas Attorney General's Office -  The home page of the Arkansas Attorney General.

  • The Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) provides information about the services the Department provides, as well as contact information and location of local offices. Informational and statistical reports can also be found.
  • Arkansas Department of Human Services - Division of Aging and Adult Services, Adult Protective Services - Describes role of the Adult Protective Services and provides useful links to other sites with helpful information on elder financial abuse.

  • The Arkansas Department of Education website provides information about public school programs in Arkansas. The mission of the Department is to provide the highest quality leadership, service, and support to school districts and schools in order that they may provide equitable, quality education for all students in Arkansas public schools. With a staff of approximately 300 professionals, the ADE is firmly committed to this mission.
  • Arkansas Department of Education Child Nutrition Network administers the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), the School Breakfast Program (SBP), the Special Milk Program (SMP) and the Nutrition Education and Training (NET) Program in the public schools in Arkansas. The unit provides technical assistance, training, monitoring, and processes claims for partial reimbursement of funds used inthe operation of local programs.
  • The Census State Data Center (CSDC) is an established network of 28 Arkansas agencies working together through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Bureau of the Census to improve use and delivery of Census and other data to the public. The CSDC houses all Arkansas information provided to the states from the U.S. Census Bureau. The information is disseminated to government agencies, businesses, and individuals.

  • Arkansas Income Taxes - The official comprehensive site to learn about Arkansas income taxes. Maintained by the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration, it provides tax forms and instructions, information on electronic filing of income taxes and withholding, and a site for persons to e-mail income and withholding tax questions.
  • Association for Financial Counseling & Planning Education is dedicated to teaching others how to manage personal finances and operates a certification program, Accredited Financial Counselors (AFC).
  • Baby Boomers and Retirement features sites that discuss retirement issues for baby boomers such as can health insurance for retirees be cut, planning for retirement, and retirement personality profile.
  • Ballpark Estimate is a quick tool to help you estimate the amount of money you will need to fund a comfortable retirement.
  • Bankrate.com - A national site that provides interest rate information to savers and credit users.
  • Consumer Federation of America is an advocacy organization that works on behalf of consumers on a variety of issues including personal finance.
  • Experian - E-commerce groups includes a national credit reporting agency that sells a credit report and a credit score to a consumer.
  • Farm Families and Retirement discusses how farmers can set up retirement plans and how to manage if a farm operation is no longer profitable.
  • FastWeb.com – Best known for its searchable database of 600,000 scholarships, this site also provides general financial aid information, including calculators and tips on admission.
  • Federal Consumer Information Center  - Hundreds of fact sheets for consumers on topics ranging from insurance to telemarketing fraud. Home of the Consumer Information Handbook, a 160 page resource, that provides advice on car repair, purchase and leasing, shopping from home, avoiding consumer and investment fraud; home improvement and financing and much more.
  • Federal Income Taxes - The official comprehensive site for the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS) provides tax forms and instructions, a tax calendar, tax tips for individuals and businesses, updates on rules and regulations, and information on how to contact the IRS.
  • Federal Trade Commission's Consumer Response Center - A list of topics to look-up when consumers have complaints about products or services.
  • Financial Calculators for Retirement Planning offers calculators to help you make investment decisions including calculating mutual fund costs, making tax-free versus taxable yield comparisons, figuring loan costs and savings returns.
  • Financial Engines is low-cost web site that advises employees and individuals on how much money they will need to retire and how to allocate those tax-deferred investments.
  • Gamblers Anonymous, International Service Office - Gives contact information on how to locate a group plus information about compulsive gambling.
  • GIFT (Great Investment for Tomorrow) - The 529 education savings plan for the state of Arkansas.

  • Institute for Financial Literacy - Founded in 2002, the is a non-profit organization whose mission is to make effective financial literacy education available to all American adults. The Institute accomplishes its mission by developing financial literacy education programs a partnering with non-profit, educational and governmental organizations to integrate these programs into their existing service.  The Institute also has published the National Standards in Adult Financial Literacy Education.
  • Investing for Success is an interactive program that specifically targets African-Americans who lag behind other groups with similar incomes when it comes to investing.
  • Investing for Your Future - Investing For Your Future is an 11-unit home study course developed by the Cooperative Extension system for beginning investors with small dollar amounts to invest at any one time. The authors assumed that many readers will be investing for the first time or selecting investment products, such as a stock index fund or unit investment trust, that they have not purchased previously. The following units are cited: Unit 5, Fixed-Income Investing, includes a discussion on bonds; Unit 4, Equity Investing, includes a discussion on stocks; Unit 6, Investing in Mutual Funds, includes a discussion on mutual funds; and Unit 10 - Selecting Your Team of Financial Professionals, includes a discussion on when to use financial advisors including bankers, real estate agents, lawyers, accountants, employee benefit counselors, life insurance agents, estate planners, investment advisors, stock brokers or financial planners.

  • Late Savers Guidebook discusses how to catch up on retirement savings including strategies to increased retirement funds. There are numerous worksheets to help you.

  • Medicare web site - the home page for Medicare information.
  • Medicare Basics  -  Medicare Basics. Medicare is a health insurance program for people 65 years and older, some people, under age 65, with disabilities, and people with End-Stage Renal Disease. Medicare Basics has information on coverage, eligibility, enrollment, and your Medicare card.

  • Medicare Plan Choices - Medicare is a health insurance program for people 65 years and older, some people, under age 65, with disabilities, and people with End-Stage Renal Disease. Medicare Plan Choices site has information about original Medicare, managed care, private fee-for-service, and Medicare supplement insurance (medigap policies).

  • myFICO Credit Scores - A national credit reporting agency that sells a copy of a credit report or a credit score to a consumer.

  • National Aging Information Center - This service of the U.S. Administration on Aging offers searchable databases on AoA supported materials and reports, publications, a calendar of events, statistical resources on the aging, GAO reports related to aging issues, and web links. The site also contains a link to the MedLine Database of the National Library of Medicine.

  • National Association of Triads, Inc. - Home page of the National Association of Triads, a tax-exempt affiliate corporation of the National Sheriffs' Association that acts as an umbrella organization providing advice, support, technical assistance and training to local Triads throughout the U.S. Triads include representatives from AARP, the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the National Sheriffs' Association. These groups have agreed to work together to help ensure senior safety.

  • National Center on Elder Abuse - This is a federal grant-funded partnership of leading organizations involved with preventing elder abuse. On its Web site, you will find comprehensive information about elder abuse: its causes and victims, elder abuse laws by state, hotline reporting numbers, fact sheets, and research reports, with extensive annotated Web links to state, national, and international sites.

  • National Center for Victims of Crime (NCVC) - A useful resource for all types of victims of crime. Includes domestic violence and other websites for every state; elder abuse posters that can be ordered from NCVC; a discussion forum for both victims and professionals; overview of elder abuse laws and policies; and regularly-updated news stories from across the country. Some references and links are not, however, up to date. Immediate advice for domestic violence victims.

  • National Consumer Law Center advocates for low-income consumer issues including personal finances.
  • National Council on Problem Gambling - Provides information on problem and compulsive gambling.
  • National Flood Insurance - This web site explains how flood insurance works.
  • National Foundation for Credit Counseling – Founded in 1951, the foundation through its member agencies offers free and low cost budget and credit counseling and debt management plans.
  • National Money 2000 Website
  • North American Securities Administrators Association, Inc. - Organized in 1919, the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA)  is the oldest international organization devoted to investor protection. Any individual that wishes to protect themselves from securities fraud will find the information on this site useful.
  • Official U.S. Government Site For Medicare Information - Medicare pays few long-term-care costs. This searchable site has the latest Medicare rule including Medicare basics, Medicare plan choices, and how to choose a nursing home.
  • Personal Wealth Estimator will help you calculate your net worth.
  • Plan Well, Retire Well is a web-based educational program for younger workers in their 20s and 30s. It will help you with investing, saving through tax-deferred retirement plans, and show you how money grows over time. Interactive tools will help you evaluate your current financial position and set goals for the future.

  • Ten Ways to Beat the Clock Before Retirement is a good checklist to help you stay on target for retirement planning.
  • Trans Union - A national credit reporting agency that sells a copy of a credit report and credit score to a consumer.
  • Unemployment Insurance - The Arkansas Employment Security Division contains information about unemployment benefits, including disaster unemployment benefits, filing an unemployment claim, and how to appeal a claim.
  • U.S. Administration on Aging - An extensive resource on all aging topics, including elder abuse.   • U.S. Department of Labor Health Benefits Education - Information about health insurance benefits and divorce, go to a different Department of Labor web site
  • U.S. Department of Labor Retirement Plans, Benefits and Savings - provides retirement plan participants and their beneficiaries with information on their rights under the federal pension law with respect to their plans. The information ranges from general information on the law to numerous specific issues.
  • Worker's Compensation -The Arkansas Worker's Compensation Commission explains how worker's compensation works. There are links to rules, advisories, forms, and how to contact persons in the agency.
  • U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Office of Investor Education - The SEC's Office of Investor Education and Assistance provides a variety of services to address the problems and questions you may face as an investor. They cannot tell you what investments to make, but they can tell you how to invest wisely and avoid fraud.
